GreenLine

2021

Designed as a mobile transportation hub, GreenLine promotes eco-friendly transportation options while providing a platform to make the necessary decisions in order to do so as easy as possible.

This project focuses on the user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) aspects of design, taking into consideration what is important to users while interacting with and using the app. Research was conducted within different demographics of people in regard to their frequency of commuting.

For the sake of the project, location was based on the Washington metropolitan area, specifically where the WMATA (Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority) operated. This way, the experimental reality of the project could play out as intended. Having a heavily urbanized area is optimal, especially when multiple modes of public transportation are available. In GreenLine's instance, the Metro and MetroBus are the wide-spread options and both operating within WMATA.

While a SmarTrip card (WMATA card) will allow use for all WMATA transports, it does not fully encapsulate the vision of GreenLine and its purpose. GreenLine operates a hub for all public transport cards, as well as the ability to load on third-party accounts like Bird or Capital Bikeskare (or any other self-serve transport like a scooter or bike). This way the user only has to worry about one app and one card, and can easily identify where transport locations are, track travel distance of trips,  and monitor carbon footprint statistics all within GreenLine.
